Contract Arbitration Award

The Department of Transportation and Public Works has received notification of a contract arbitration award between the department and its highway workers, Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1867. The award was formally filed with the Highway Workers Employee Relations Board earlier today.

Transportation and Public Works Minister Ron Russell said he is pleased to see the process has been completed and has led to a fair outcome.

The Highway Workers Collective Bargaining Act provides for interest arbitration as a means to determine a final contract. The arbitration award is binding on both the employer and the union.

Details of the arbitration award will be shared with workers over the coming days. The award affects 1,900 highway workers.
