Sherbrooke Village Nominated Best Outdoor Developed Site
N.S. MUSEUM--Sherbrooke Village Nominated Best Outdoor Developed Site
Sherbrooke Village has been nominated for a national grand prize as the best "developed outdoor site" in Canada.
The village will compete against similar sites from across Canada for the prestigious award, which will be given out at Pier 21, in Halifax, on May 23. The contest is run by Attractions Canada.
"It is very rewarding to see members of our museum family receive this sort of recognition," said Rodney MacDonald, minister of Tourism and Culture. "Being nominated for such an award attests to the calibre of the site and the profile Sherbrooke Village has raised within Nova Scotia and throughout the country."
The village’s director, Craig MacDonald, credits the nomination to a strong team approach that has enabled Sherbrooke Village to raise its profile in recent years.
"Sherbrooke Village has always had friendly and knowledgeable staff, but for many years we didn’t have the resources to truly let people know what a special place this is to visit," he said. "Our partnerships with the Department of Tourism and Culture and from the Antigonish Eastern Shore Tourist Association have helped us in promoting the village."
The category of "developed outdoor sites" includes historical and archaeological sites, botanical gardens and multi-functional sites.
Past Nova Scotia nominees for Attractions Canada Awards have been the Town of Annapolis Royal, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Privateer Days, the Cabot Trail Relay Race, Cape Chignecto Provincial Park, Grand-Pré National Historic Site, Halifax Citadel National Historic Site and Pier 21 National Historic Site.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic was the national winner in 1999 in the category of "indoor site."
