Optometry Legislation Introduced
Health Minister Jamie Muir introduced legislation today to allow optometrists to incorporate professionally.
"These amendments to the Optometry Act would be similar to changes made to legislation for dentists, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors and denturists," said Mr. Muir. "The amendments reflect our effort to have some consistency between health professions with regard to legislation."
Dentists were the first to have the right to professional incorporation, with legislation tabled in 1992. Doctors and other health professions received a similar right in the following years.
The amendments have been developed in co-operation with the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists.
