Salary Adjustment for Excluded Civil Servants
The Nova Scotia government has approved a salary adjustment for its non-unionized support staff and managers.
The salary adjustment provides a 1.9 per cent wage increase effective April 1, 2000, and a further 1.9 per cent increase effective April 1 this year for civil servants who are excluded from the bargaining unit.
"This provides a fair wage increase for our employees and is affordable for government," said Human Resources Minister Ronald Russell. "The wage increase is in keeping with recent collective agreements in the provincial public sector."
Last month, the government reached an agreement with correctional workers, represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union for pay increase of two per cent, two per cent and one per over a three-year contract. Just over a year ago, the government reached an agreement with the province’s approximately 10,000 teachers that provided a 3.9 per cent wage increase over 26 months.
There are approximately 1,500 non-unionized civil servants, including management staff and administrative support staff, out of a civil service totalling 7,500.
