Spring Roads: Minister Urges Caution

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS–Spring Roads: Minister Urges Caution

Transportation and Public Works Minister Ron Russell is asking the motoring public to exercise caution and patience when dealing with current spring road conditions.

"This has been an unusually bad winter, with major storms and extremely cold temperatures," said Mr. Russell. "As a result, the annual breakup of roadways will be more severe over the next few weeks."

Mr. Russell warned motorists that the worst is yet to come. The freezing has yet to come out and, when it does, it will have a major impact on our highways and roadways.

"We are working hard to keep up with the repair work but we are battling Mother Nature and, as usual, Mother Nature wins," he said. "It is not a question of dollars and cents; we are simply battling nature."

Motorists should expect rough road conditions during the thawing period and adjust their driving to the conditions.
