Bird Exhibit Will "Egg Kids On" During March Break

During March break, families can flock together to discover the amazing world of our fine feathered friends -- at The Birds exhibit at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax.

From March 10-18, the museum is presenting big birds, small birds, live birds and ones about to hatch. Strange feet, amazing beaks and feathers the colours of the rainbow have been brought together in amazing March-break experiences:

The new exhibit highlights The Bird Zoo, where kids will meet live birds from the Magnetic Hill Zoo. We’re welcoming colourful parrots, the strange maribou stork, giant rheas, an East African crown crane, plus funny, frolicking caiques.

The Museum of Natural History is one of the most popular March- break destinations for Maritimers. "Each year we deliver a fun and memorable event with good information about our natural world," says, Stephen Archibald, manager of interpretation.

The Birds will appeal to all ages, with entertaining performances of Robin’s Egg by Neptune Theatre School, bird specialists with their favourite birds", plus the ever popular Baby Animals, courtesy of Hants County 4-H Clubs. The Herpetoculture Society will be here with its reptile friends. This year’s gross-out is Gizzard Wizard Owl Fun, where real owl pellets are dissected to see what an owl ate for lunch.

Visitors look forward to the festive atmosphere and high-calibre programming that we create each March Break," says museum director Debra Burleson. "The Birds really brings out the creativity and playfulness of Museum staff. It’s the place worth leaving your nest for," says Burleson, mother of three boys."
