Intricacies and Endearments: Objects Designed From the Heart
TOURISM/CULTURE -Intricacies and Endearments: Objects Designed From the Heart
After a four month closure "the Mary Black" is back with its new exhibit, the Intricacies and Endearments: Objects Designed From the Heart. This exhibition features 37 pieces by 19 artists from across the province and beyond. The show runs through to Feb. 14.
Previous exhibitions at the gallery have commonly specialized in one type of craft. Intricacies and Endearments differs by presenting a broad spectrum of craft and skills by various artists. It is a selection of works inviting people to look at the softer radiance of gift giving with the intimate detail of hand-made gifts. The work offers a wide sampling of both traditional and contemporary methods -- wood turning and carving, quilting, knitting, sculpture, printmaking, and jewellery. Other offerings are treasured remnants of gifts that have been given.
The methods and techniques may change from artist to artist but one component remains the same the memorabilia. Each piece tells a different tale, it may be woven around stories of closeness between family and between friends, stories of travel and adventure, stories of young lovers bonding, stories of hardship and support, or stories of welcoming new life into the world.
The exhibit is curated by Pamela Pike and includes the works of Denise Ainsworth, Saul Becker, Kathryn Belzer, Luigi Costanzo, Simon DiVincenzo, Maura Donovan, Elizabeth Goluch, Joleen Gordon, Leora G. Johnson, Valda Kemp, Rita Lamontagne MacDonald, Lois Loewen, Leo MacNeil, Dawn MacNutt, Beverly McInnes, Susan Parmley, David Scott, Kristen Welton, and Norbert Wozniak.
