PREMIER'S OFFICE- Byelections Called for March 6

Voters in Cape Breton North and Halifax Fairview constituencies will choose their new MLAs in byelections on Tuesday, March 6, Premier John Hamm announced today.

The vacancies were created by the resignation of former premier Russell MacLellan as MLA for Cape Breton North and the death of Halifax Fairview MLA Eileen O'Connell.

"I made a commitment that the people of both constituencies would have new MLAs in place by the spring sitting of the House of Assembly," said the premier. "This byelection date honours that commitment."
