Recruiting for Visitor Information Centres

The Department of Tourism and Culture is recruiting for seasonal jobs at provincial visitor information centres throughout the province. Travel counselors, supervisors and maintenance workers are needed between May and October. The deadline for applications is Friday, Feb. 9.

"Our provincial visitor information centres provide a great opportunity for those interested in the hospitality sector," says Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism and Culture. "The training and experience gained while working at these centres are solid stepping stones for a career in this growing sector."

Job descriptions and application forms are available at local employment centres, Nova Scotia Business Service centres, Access Nova Scotia centres, and university and community-college employment centres. Tourism and Culture can also be contacted at 902-424-8916 or by mail at P.O. Box 456, Halifax, NS B3J 2R5. Nova Scotia's annual tourism industry revenues are estimated at $1.25 billion. That revenue translates into jobs for some 35,000 Nova Scotians with an estimated payroll of $487 million last year. Tourism is also a significant export industry, with more than half of the revenue coming from outside the province.
