Special Exhibition Features Art and Nature

The Ark, an exhibition of paintings by Nova Scotia artist Peter Gough, opens at the Museum of Natural History today and runs until Feb. 11.

Mr. Gough is passionate about nature and his province. His paintings capture a love for the natural world, the contrasts of our seasons and the rich abundance of habitats that our region has to offer.

Twenty-five evocative paintings highlight the beauty and mystic qualities of one of the most biologically productive environments in the world: the Bay of Fundy, Minas Basin and Gulf of Maine.

"In each of my paintings I try to embrace a message about the importance of nature and how we must see ourselves as part of that world," said Mr. Gough.

"We're pleased to host this exhibit, which speaks to those who appreciate art and to those who enjoy the incredible diversity of the natural and cultural history of this area," said Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism and Culture.

"It is our long cultural association with the sea and its natural beauty that makes Nova Scotia a world-class tourism destination."

Peter Gough is a celebrated artist whose work is exhibited in galleries throughout Britain, the United States and Canada and who is represented in significant private collections. The Ark is also endorsed by The World Wildlife Fund.

Committed to environmental conservation, Mr. Gough is contributing a significant portion of the sale of each of his works to support the efforts of the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment. This international state/provincial initiative was established to monitor, protect and sustain the Gulf of Maine ecosystem.
