Premier Grants Chataway's Request to Leave Cabinet

PREMIER'S OFFICE--Premier Grants Chataway's Request to Leave Cabinet

Premier John Hamm today accepted a request by John Chataway to be relieved of his duties as a member of the Executive Council.

"John has shown a lot of courage and I'm personally saddened that he won't be serving in cabinet. He was a dedicated and caring member of the Executive Council," said Premier Hamm. "Right now he needs to concentrate on his health and constituents."

"While Mr. Chataway has asked to give up his extra duties as a cabinet minister, I'm pleased that he will continue to serve as a strong representative for the people of Chester - St. Margaret's as he has for the past several months," he said.

Mr. Chataway was appointed to cabinet on Aug. 16, 1999, and held the portfolios for Environment and Labour, and Human Resources at the time of his resignation.

"My principal concern today is for Mr. Chataway," said Premier Hamm. "As a municipal official and a member of the House of Assembly he's made an important contribution to his community. For that I thank him on behalf of all Nova Scotians."

Angus MacIsaac will continue as acting Minister for Environment and Labour.

Ronald Russell will continue as acting Minister of Human Resources.
