ENVIRONMENT/LABOUR -Staff Meet with Local Environment Group
The Environmentally Concerned Communities of Kings Association and the Department of Environment and Labour met recently to discuss concerns about the Mark-Lyn Construction site on Baltzer Bog in Coldbrook, Kings Co.
Department staff agreed to continue to conduct ongoing monitoring of the site to ensure that the operation complies with all aspects of the company's environmental approval to operate.
As well, additional samples will be taken from the site to determine whether manure brought there may have caused any soil contamination. The department will also continue to sample local wells. To date, tests done for local residents do not indicate any contamination from the site.
"People are looking for more assurance that their drinking water is safe and this testing can help to do that," said area manager Kim McNeil.
Anyone living in the local area who wants to have well water tested should contact the Kentville office of the Department of Environment and Labour at 902-679-6086.
The residents and department staff agreed to continued co- operation.
