Holiday Season Message, 2000

The following is the holiday season message from Lt.-Gov. Myra Freeman.

As the Queen's representative in Nova Scotia, and on behalf of my husband, Larry, and our children, Daniel, Jonathan and Debra, it is a pleasure to extend warm holiday greetings to all Nova Scotians.

In the past seven months, I have had the opportunity to meet many extraordinary individuals throughout the province. I have experienced first-hand the warmth and hospitality for which Nova Scotia is renowned.

I have also experienced the generosity of Nova Scotians, and it knows no bounds. This is evident in the many community projects, celebrations and observances organized by thousands of dedicated volunteers. We can be proud of the commitment and unselfishness displayed by the people of this province.

Nova Scotia's rich culture and heritage have become more evident to me in my duties as Lieutenant-Governor. We live in a province of diverse backgrounds, strong traditions and a wealth of fascinating history.

Each of those elements creates opportunities for the future. More and more, communities are re-creating themselves by sharing their heritage with visitors from around the globe.

It is of great importance that we share our knowledge of the past with tomorrow's future -- the young people of this province. Understanding where we have come from will enable our youth to play an educated role in building our province and our nation in the years to come.

The holiday season is a time to be thankful for the opportunities available to us in this province, for the generosity and hospitality of our friends and neighbours, and for our families. Like many Nova Scotians, I am looking forward to my children returning home so we can celebrate and spend time together.

My wish for all Nova Scotians at this time, and throughout the year, is one of happiness, good health and love of family and friends. May all of you share in the joy of this holiday season.
