Children's Website Launched

Nova Scotia has a fun, new website for children.

The site, www.gov.ns.ca/playground , was developed by Communications Nova Scotia to give children easier access to information about the province. Facts on Nova Scotia -- from its connection to Titanic to the population of our 18 counties -- can be found in one place, on one site.

"Government receives many inquiries from young people every year," said Ron Russell, Minister responsible for Communications Nova Scotia. "This initiative makes information available to children on an easy to use site."

Nova Scotia is one of the few provinces in the country to have a website dedicated to children. Links to unique information about Nova Scotia can be found throughout the site's easily navigated pages.

The information on the website was developed with input from Nova Scotia teachers, tailoring information to the specific interests of students between the ages of eight and 14.

One feature of the site is its Duck Tolling Retriever mascot. A contest to name the dog is being held and submissions can be made by visiting the website. The deadline for entries is Friday, Dec. 15.

The next step in making information more accessible to young Nova Scotians will be the development of a new website for the Nova Scotia Youth Secretariat. This website will be designed for users between the ages of 15 and 24.
