CEO Announced for District Health Authority #5
Bruce Saunders, chairman of Cumberland's district health authority, is pleased to announce that Bruce Quigley has accepted the position of CEO.
Mr. Quigley has been with the Department of Health for the past two years as regional director for the northern region. He has extensive experience within the industry both in hospitals and other health agencies, including his position as CEO of Soldier's Memorial Hospital in Middleton. To complement his experience, Mr. Quigley has a Master of Health Services Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.
"I am looking forward to working with Mr. Quigley in his new capacity as CEO," said Health Minister Jamie Muir. "We believe he is the ideal candidate to help lead the Cumberland district as they work with communities to improve health services throughout the region."
Bruce Saunders, the newly appointed chair for the district, was involved in the selection of Mr. Quigley as CEO. In addition, representatives of medical staff, community health boards and the Department of Health were involved in the process.
The new district health authority is responsible for Cumberland County. It is smaller than the former Northern Regional Health Board. District health authorities are legislated to be accountable -- both to their communities and to the Department of Health -- for the decisions they make and the money they spend.
District health authorities will be responsible for maximizing resources and integrating parts of the health delivery system, including disease prevention and health promotion, diagnostic treatment, adult acute care, continuing care, public health, mental health and addiction services.
Mr. Quigley will assume his responsibilities as CEO for the district on Jan. 1, 2001.
