CEO Announced for District Health Authority #3

Marguerite Rowe, director of Regional Clinical Programs for the Western Regional Health Board, is the successful candidate for CEO of Annapolis and Kings district health authority.

Ms. Rowe has been a member of the health board's executive team for about three years. Previously she was the assistant executive director at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Ontario. This facility received the Canada Award for Excellence for Quality Health Care in 1997. Ms. Rowe also served as vice-president at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax.

"We are very pleased to see the district health authority hire their CEO," said Health Minister Jamie Muir. "Ms. Rowe will help guide the district health authority as its members work together with local communities and the Department of Health to deliver care within the Annapolis and Kings area."

The newly appointed chair for the district -- David Logie -- was involved in the selection of Ms. Rowe as CEO. In addition, representatives of medical staff, community health boards and the Department of Health were involved in the process.

The new district health authority is responsible for Annapolis and Kings counties. It is smaller than the former Western Regional Health Board. District health authorities are legislated to be accountable -- both to their communities and to the Department of Health -- for the decisions they make and the money they spend.

District health authorities will be responsible for maximizing resources and integrating parts of the health delivery system, including disease prevention and health promotion, diagnostic treatment, adult acute care, continuing care, public health, mental health and addiction services.

Ms. Rowe will assume her responsibilities as CEO for the district on Jan. 1, 2001.
