Voluntary Unpaid Leave for Provincial Government Employees
HUMAN RESOURCES--Voluntary Unpaid Leave for Provincial Government Employees
The Nova Scotia government is once again offering its employees the option of voluntary unpaid leave during the Christmas holidays.
Beginning today, employees will be receiving information about voluntary unpaid Christmas leave which can be taken during the period from Dec. 18, 2000, to Jan. 5, 2001. The unpaid leave option is available throughout the year if it is operationally feasible in the workplace, but employees may be more interested during the Christmas season in order to have more family or personal time.
"We hope interested employees will take advantage of this option," said Ron Russell, acting Minister of Human Resources.
Unpaid leave can also benefit government through salary savings.
"As a government we continue to look at our operations to find ways to reduce operating costs and unpaid leave may help to achieve cost-savings," said Mr. Russell.
