Public Meetings on Agricultural Marshland Conservation Act
AGRICULTURE/FISHERIES--Public Meetings on Agricultural Marshland Conservation Act
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will hold information sessions on the Agriculture Marshland Conservation Act, which was introduced Nov. 7 in the Legislature.
The Marshland Conservation Act is intended to replace the existing Marshland Reclamation Act of 1949. The proposed act applies only to land incorporated through the Marshland Reclamation Act. It has no jurisdiction or authority on other marshes in the province.
The Agricultural Marshland Conservation Act is consistent with Statements of Provincial Interest in the Municipal Government Act for preserving agricultural land and preventing development on flood risk areas. The act provides the means to minimize potential damage from exceptionally high tides and heavy rains.
Information sessions will be held on the following dates:
Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1:00 p.m.
- Lovett Plaza, Yarmouth
Tuesday, Nov. 14, 6:30 p.m.
