Post Cards of Thanks Program

The Nova Scotia legislature's All Party Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs has again sponsored the Post Card of Thanks Program for Grade 6 students across Nova Scotia.

Endorsed by the Royal Canadian Legion--Nova Scotia Command, this program provides each student with a post card and a stamp to write a personal thank-you to an individual veteran.

"It is fitting for us to honour veterans and their families for the sacrifices they made and to thank them for their contribution to our nation," said William Langille, Chair of the Standing Committee.

Veterans Affairs Canada donated the post cards. Financial contributions from TRA Maritime and the Nova Scotia Teacher's Union will cover the cost of postage for each card.

Veterans Affairs Canada affirms that programs such as this help young people to understand the sacrifice and dedication that was part of the veterans' war-time service. Companies see the program as an way to pay tribute in a meaningful way. Their support of the project gives students the opportunity to express their appreciation for the role that veterans played in preserving the freedom Canadians enjoy.

This year's card depicts the ongoing peacekeeping role that our country plays on the world stage.

Over the next few weeks, Grade 6 students will be mailing their unique tributes to veterans all over Nova Scotia.
