Opening of New Coral Exhibit at Fundy Museum
The Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro will officially open a new exhibit called Coral: Daughter of the Sea, on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m.
The exhibit showcases coral found along George's Bank off the coast of Nova Scotia. The coral, including black and bubble gum tree varieties, is thought to have been broken from the sea floor by draggers, and then picked up by fishermen using a long line. The gathering of Nova Scotia coral has contributed to a growing body of evidence that the creature is not restricted to tropical areas.
The new exhibit also features underwater photographs taken in the Bay of Fundy. The photos are part of a project to raise awareness of the Bay of Fundy, sponsored by the Marine Protected Areas Program of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The extensive display includes photos of marine vertebrates and invertebrates such as starfish and anemones.
Coral: Daughter of the Sea will be exhibited at the Fundy Geological Museum for one year.
