Seniors Safety Event Slated for Greenwood
The Fire Marshal's Office and other emergency response agencies will present a seniors safety social in Greenwood on Oct. 11, beginning at 9 a.m.
The event is open to all seniors in Annapolis and Kings counties. High school students will re-enact hazardous scenarios, then discuss safer ways of handling them.
"More and more seniors are staying in their homes longer," said Harold Pothier, deputy fire marshal and event organizer.
"Because most of them live alone, they are keen to learn preventive measures, particularly in terms of police, fire and medical emergencies. In most cases, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
The event will take place in the Annapolis Mess Hall at CFB Greenwood. In addition to the mini-dramas, performed by students at the Horton District High School, there will be safety displays and a fire extinguisher demonstration.
There is no charge for this event and refreshments will be served.
