Premier John Hamm today expressed sadness and sorrow on the passing of Halifax Fairview MLA Eileen O'Connell.

"From her career as an educator to her more recent work as an MLA fighting tirelessly for quality public education, Eileen served her community with dedication and honour," said the premier. "On behalf of all Nova Scotians, I would like to extend deepest sympathies to her colleagues, friends and, most importantly, her family, and, in particular, her daughter, Carolyn."

The premier added that Ms. O'Connell faced her recent illness with courage and dignity.
