Trade Mission to Boston
Premier John Hamm will accompany nine Nova Scotia companies next week, Sept. 5-7, on a trade mission to Boston. The premier will also accept the 2000 Leadership Award from the New England Canada Business Council for his work and interest in developing business links between the Nova Scotia and New England markets.
"We have an excellent relationship with New England, and the ties grow stronger with every visit," said the premier. "Increasing trade is a critical success factor in growing the Nova Scotia economy. Building on our traditional ties with the New England market just makes sense, but we also see tremendous potential in stepping up our efforts there. I am personally committed to seeing this happen."
The participating Nova Scotia companies have expressed a keen interest in making contacts, or building on previous successes, in the New England market. The Nova Scotia delegation includes: Blackburn English, Bedford; BP Trading Ltd., Brookfield; Enerplan Consultants, Dartmouth; Jacques Whitford Environmental, Dartmouth; Larsen Packers Ltd., Berwick; the Cape Breton Board of Trade, Sydney; Trail Blazer Outdoor Quality Products, Dartmouth; Unlimited Country, Tantallon; and Virtually Yours Inc., Dartmouth. Officials from the Investment and Trade Division of the Department of Economic Development and the Environmental Industries and Technology Division of the Department of the Environment will assist on the trade mission.
"Each of these companies has a full slate of meetings with contacts in the Boston area and beyond," said Premier Hamm. "It is the kind of schedule we want to duplicate again and again through the winter and into next spring, and I will want to personally participate in getting the message out that Nova Scotia means business."
For his commitment in continuing to develop trade ties, the premier will be recognized by the New England Canada Business Council at a breakfast meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The 2000 Leadership Award acknowledges the work of the premier and the province in helping to promote trade and business development between the two regions.
The Nova Scotia trade mission team will leave Halifax on Tuesday, Sept. 5, returning on Thursday, Sept. 7.
