Round 3 Surf League Results
The Western Province club kept their undefeated streak intact as they won round three of the Nova Scotia Surf League, Tuesday, Aug. 15, at Lawrencetown Beach.
More than 30 of Nova Scotia's best lifeguards competed in four events drawn from the International Lifesaving Competition handbook, while negotiating surf conditions of almost one metre.
Key performers for the Western Province club were Sean Dyer of Dartmouth, Jason Meadows of Halifax, Stacey Connick of Truro, Nancy Witty of Wolfville, and Hannah Fraser of Halifax. Mr. Dyer placed fourth in the men's ironman competition, and third in the men's rescue board race. He also helped his club to a third-place finish in the team swim called the surf teams race, and a first- place finish in the wading relay.
Ms. Witty placed fourth in the ironwoman competition, second in the women's rescue board race, and was also part of the first- place finish in the wading relay.
Dalplex competitor, Jason Cross of Eastern Passage, was the top male competitor for the day. Mr. Cross, who recently captained the Canadian National Lifesaving Team at the World Championships in Sydney, Australia, did very well. He was victorious in the men's ironman, the men's rescue board race and helped his team to a first-place finish in the surf teams race.
Other key competitors were Shauna Conrad of Dartmouth, Lori Borgal of Halifax, and Mike Smith of Halifax. Ms. Conrad, who competes for the North Shore club, was victorious in the ironwoman and the women's rescue board race. She also helped her team to a second-place finish in the wading relay. Ms. Borgal, representing the Cape Breton club, was second in the ironwoman competition, third in the women's rescue board race, and helped her team to a second-place finish in the surf teams event.
Competing for Dalplex, Mr. Smith placed second in the men's ironman and helped his team to the win in the surf teams event by placing first overall in the swim.
