Nova Scotia Surf League Round 3

Round 3 of Nova Scotia Surf League action begins Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 6:45 p.m. at Lawrencetown Beach, just outside of Halifax.

This round consists of four events: the Canadian ironman/ironwoman, rescue board race, surf teams race, and the wading relay.

Clubs from Cape Breton, Western Province, North Shore, Eastern Shore and Dalplex are competing in the four-round league.

Western Province, winners of the first two rounds, will be trying to repeat their victories, and look strong with competitors such as Hannah Fraser and Jason Meadows both of Halifax. Ms. Fraser recently represented Nova Scotia at the New York All Women Lifeguard Tournament, helping the bluenosers to 2nd place overall. Mr. Meadows recently represented Nova Scotia at the Newport, Rhode Island Invitational Lifeguard Tournament and at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championship in San Diego, California.

Also in the competitor's field will be Jason Cross of Eastern Passage. Mr. Cross, captain of the men's Canadian National Lifesaving Team who recently represented Canada at the World Lifesaving Championship in Sydney, Australia, will be competing for Dalplex.

Nova Scotia Surf League point leaders Sean Dyer of Dartmouth and Nancy Witty of Wolfville, will again be representing the Western Province club. Mr. Dyer leads the men's points standings with 32 points and Ms. Witty leads the women's points standings with 43.

Jamie Wildsmith of Halifax and Shauna Conrad of Dartmouth will be looking to gain ground on Mr. Dyer and Ms. Witty in the individual point standings. Mr. Wildsmith, who competes for the Eastern Shore club, is currently second in the individual men's point standings with 31 points. Ms. Conrad, who competes for the North Shore club, is currently second in the individual women's point standings with 38 points.

Expect competition between the Eastern Shore, North Shore, and Cape Breton clubs to be very competitive. These three clubs are currently tied for second place in the cumulative league standings.
