Western Leads Surf League Competition

The Western Province club is leading the overall standings in the Nova Scotia Surf League after one round of competition.

The club won the first round of competition on June 27 at Melmerby Beach. Four teams make up the Nova Scotia Surf League: Cape Breton, North Shore, Eastern Shore and Western Province.

The surf league is a competition series featuring the sport of lifesaving. Lifesaving is one of the only sports where competitors learn and use humanitarian skills, such as lifesaving skills, in competition. Events include open water surf swimming, rescue board paddling, beach sprinting, and multidisciplinary events such as the run-swim-run, ironman and ironwoman.

Below is a listing of upcoming rounds of competition, dates and locations:

  • Round 2, July 31, Inverness Beach, Inverness Co.
  • Round 3, Aug. 15, Lawrencetown Beach, Halifax Co.
  • Round 4, Aug. 29, Rissers Beach, Lunenburg Co., championship round

The Lifesaving Society is Canada's governing body for the sport of lifesaving, which is now recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
