Tender Call for Mantua Bridge
Work to replace the Mantua Bridge near Brooklyn, Hants Co., is expected to begin this summer.
Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, has authorized the calling of tenders for bridge construction and improvements to approaches. The work will consist of replacing the old one-lane bridge with a new two-lane concrete structure, spanning 56 metres.
The project will also include constructing bridge approaches on the Avondale Road. The current bridge was identified as needing replacement more than five years ago. It has had to undergo emergency repairs twice since the winter.
"This bridge is an important link to people in the area and its replacement is urgently required for public safety," said Mr. Russell.
Tenders will be called early in July. Work on the bridge approaches will begin later this summer and the steel superstructure will be in place by November. The concrete deck will be poured once warmer weather returns in the spring of 2001.
