Architects' Exhibit at Mary E. Black Gallery
The Nova Scotia Association of Architects presents the current exhibition at the Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design.
The exhibit features the award winners from the 2000 Lieutenant Governor's Design Awards in Architecture as well as works of art by members of the architects' association. It runs through to July 15 at the Mary E. Black Gallery.
Architects are known for their artistic expression in their physical designs. However, many have expanded their creativity to excel in other areas of the arts, exploring other mediums as tools for self expression and creative freedom. These expressions form the members' show, "Architect as Artist", which accompanies the Lieutenant Governor's design award winners.
The winners included in this exhibit are:
- for the Merit Award, Howard House of Brian MacKay Lyons Architecture for West Pennant
- for the Citation in Architectural Design, the Faculty of Computer Science Building at Dalhousie University, designed by Brian MacKay Lyons Architecture and Fowler Bauld Mitchell Ltd.
- and for Honourable Mention, the MTT Customer Service Centre at Scotia Square in Halifax by WHW Architects Inc.; the new offices of the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia in Halifax by Henry & Mathews; and the Amherst Regional High School in Amherst also by WHW Architects Inc.
Stephanie Nowe-Morris coordinated the exhibit while a jury selected this year's award winners. The members of that jury were Peter Cochrane and Allan Penney of Halifax, Andrew MacGillvray of Moncton and graduate architect Todd MacAllen. Sponsorship for the exhibit has been provided by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
