Pascal Roberge has been appointed Team Nova Scotia's assistant chef de mission for the 2001 Canada Summer Games to be held in London, Ont.
Mr. Roberge's appointment was announced today by Jane Purves, Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission.
"We're fortunate to have a person of Mr. Roberge's talents as assistant chef de mission," said Ms. Purves. "He has a strong background in amateur sports, as well as the experience that comes from having volunteered with Team Nova Scotia in the past."
The Canada Games allow athletes to compete as part of a provincial team at the national level. The games also build understanding among Canadians. The assistant chef de mission is responsible for helping to prepare and manage the provincial team.
"This is a real honour for me," said Mr. Roberge. "I look forward to representing Nova Scotia in London, Ontario."
Mr. Roberge served as a volunteer member of Team Nova Scotia at the 1999 Canada Winter Games. He has also held several sport- related positions in Ottawa, including assistant sport director at the Canada Games Council, assistant sport co-ordinator at the Canadian Wheelchair Sport Association and assistant marketing director at the Sport Information Resource Centre. Mr. Roberge works as a sales representative in Dartmouth, N.S. He is fluent in English and French.
Beginning next year, it is the intention that Team Nova Scotia's assistant chef de mission will assume the title of chef de mission for the following Canada Games. Consequently, Mr. Roberge is slated to become Team Nova Scotia's chef de mission for the 2003 Canada Winter Games in New Brunswick.
