Wanted: Green-Collar Workers
Calling all green-collar workers.
To mark this year's Environment Week, which runs from June 4 to June 10, the provincial Department of the Environment is challenging Nova Scotians to go green.
During the week, Department of the Environment staff will be participating in a commuter challenge against their counterparts in Natural Resources and Transportation and Public Works.
As a tune-up, staff will participate this Friday, June 2, in a litter pick-up sponsored by the Downtown Business Association.
As well, Greening Your Office brochures will be available at Department of the Environment offices across Nova Scotia. Other tips and surprises will be available through the department's website during the week.
"We're looking for green-collar workers. We know they are out there," Acting Environment Minister Michael Baker said. "It means using less paper, conserving and thinking green.
The minister is designating Thursday, June 8, as Government Green Day in Nova Scotia. He said, from time to time, everybody needs to be reminded that preserving our environment is up to all of us.
"Every workplace should be promoting green habits," said Mr. Baker. "For instance, when you have a meeting why not car pool to get there, use reusable charts to take notes and drink your coffee out of a mug."
