Bayside in Barrington to Reopen
COMMUNITY SERVICES-Bayside in Barrington to Reopen
The Government of Nova Scotia will support the decision of the Bayside Home Corporation Board of Management to renovate their facility in Barrington, Community Services Minister Peter Christie announced today.
The centre was closed in early January due to mould problems and the residents were temporarily relocated to interim care placements. An environmental assessment was completed to determine the extent of the problem and the steps required to rehabilitate the facility.
"We have decided to rehabilitate the facility to meet the needs of residents in the Barrington Shelburne area now and well into the future," said Mr. Christie. "I know that both staff and the residents are anxious to move back home."
The board of directors will now meet with the architect to finalize retrofit plans for approval by the government. The board will then call a tender.
Bayside is presently a licensed Home for Special Care built in 1975 to serve 30 mentally disabled adults.
