Waterfront Development Efforts Streamlined
Waterfront development operations in metro Halifax will be streamlined, Economic Development Minister Gordon Balser announced today.
As part of an effort to eliminate duplication, the province will transfer the operations of the Bedford Waterfront Development Corp. to the Waterfront Development Corp. Ltd.
The minister says it is a move that makes sense given the well known fiscal pressures the province faces.
"We have two like-organizations doing the same work in the same municipality," said Mr. Balser. "It makes sense to combine operations for efficiency, particularly as the goals for the waterfront in Bedford will continue to be pursued."
In the interim, the operation of the Bedford Waterfront Development Corp. will continue as a subsidiary of the Waterfront Development Corp.
"This new arrangement means a more coordinated approach to waterfront development in metro. We are excited about the possibilities and committed to ensuring Bedford's concerns continue to be addressed," said Annette Marshall, chair of the Waterfront Development Corp.
Directors will be appointed to wind-up the affairs of the Bedford Waterfront Development Corp. Upcoming board appointments to the Waterfront Development Corp. will include residents of Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford to reflect the newly defined operation.
