Road Tenders Called
Two major 100-series highway repaving projects in Hants and Inverness counties are among contracts being called Wednesday, May 10, for work on several roads and bridges throughout Nova Scotia.
Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, will be issuing the call for tenders.
In Hants County, a tender is being issued for cold planing and asphalt concrete repaving, as well as concrete rehabilitation and joint replacement on Highway 102.
The first section includes the Highway 102 northbound lanes from Exit 8 at Elmsdale, northerly to Exit 9 at Milford, about 10.5 kilometres. The project also includes the on-ramps and off-ramps, as well as the northbound lanes of the bridge over Nine Mile River.
In Inverness County, a tender is being called for several improvements to Highway 105. About 3.5 kilometres easterly from Big Marsh Road will be repaved, as will approximately 4.8 kilometres of Highway 105 easterly from Indian Marsh Bridge at Wycocomagh. A third project will see construction of a new left turn lane at Melford at Exit 3.
"These 100-series highway improvement projects are being called on some of the most important trade corridors in Nova Scotia," said Mr. Russell. "Highway 102 carries traffic to and from Halifax, while Highway 105 is the main route for commerce to industrial Cape Breton and Newfoundland."
In Annapolis, Lunenburg and Digby counties, a tender is being
called for micro-surfacing on three sections. Those sections are:
Section 1: Highway 101, Annapolis County, from Elliott Road at
Exit 19 in Lawrencetown, westerly to Trunk 1 at Exit 20 at
Bridgetown, approximately 11.2 kilometres.
Section 2: Highway 103, Lunenburg County, from Exit 10 overpass
to approximately one kilometre east of Martins River Bridge,
approximately 4.1 kilometres.
Section 3: Route 217, Digby County, East Ferry to Little River,
approximately 7.4 kilometres.
In Colchester and Cumberland counties, a tender is being called
for patching and micro-surfacing in three sections. Those
sections are:
Section 1: Trans-Canada Highway 104, Colchester County, from
one kilometre east of Exit 17, westerly to the 102/104
interchange, approximately 11.7 kilometres.
Section 2: Trans-Canada Highway 104, Colchester County, from
the 102/104 interchange, westerly to approximately 600 metres
west of the Debert interchange, approximately 9.3 kilometres.
Section 3: Wallace Harbour Bridge Deck, approximately 0.7
kilometres north of Trunk 6, approximately 0.2 kilometres.
In Halifax County, a tender is being called for bridge rehabilitation and joint replacement in two sections, including:
Section 1: Salmon River Bridge in Jeddore, on Trunk 7.
Section 2: East River Bridge in Sheet Harbour, on Trunk 7.
In Pictou County, a call for tenders will be issued for crack- filling and seal coating on Trunk 6, from Pictou Rotary to Shore Road, approximately 11.8 kilometres.
In Victoria County, a tender is being called for concrete repairs, waterproofing and repaving in two sections, including:
Section 1: Trans-Canada Highway 104, Lower Middle River Bridge.
Section 2: Trans-Canada Highway 105, MacKay's Bridge.
The tenders for Annapolis, Halifax, and Hants counties will close Thursday, May 25. The tenders for Colchester, Pictou and Victoria counties will close Friday, May 26. The tender for Inverness County will close Tuesday, May 30.
The work in Halifax County is expected to be completed by July 31. The work in Victoria County is expected to be completed by August 15. The work on the projects in Hants and Inverness counties are expected to be carried out by August 31.
