Helping Operators Increase Their Bottom Line
Tourism operators and others working to build the sector are invited to attend tourism-business planning sessions that will focus on increasing the industry's bottom line.
Nova Scotia's Tourism Partnership Council will host the sessions in communities across the province between May 15 and May 25.
Participants will get plenty of details on how to put provincial marketing and development plans to work for their business. They will also get an opportunity to have their say on how the province attracts visitors and keeps them here.
The sessions will include a detailed look at what customers are looking for in specific areas throughout the province. This is important information for operators wanting to build on their area's competitive strengths.
"We have a great deal of information to share with operators on ways they can benefit from provincial tourism marketing and development plans," said Doug Fawthrop, chair of the Nova Scotia Tourism Partnership Council and managing director of White Point Beach Resort. "We also need people to help us identify what they see as the new opportunities and issues facing the industry."
Following is a list of the dates and locations. All sessions run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a working lunch provided.
May 15 Best Western Glengarry, Truro May 16 Nova Scotia Museum of Industry, Stellarton May 17 Gaelic College of Celtic Arts & Crafts, St. Ann's May 18 Lion's Club, Sheet Harbour May 23 Holiday Inn Harbourview, Dartmouth May 24 The Pines Resort, Digby May 25 White Point Beach Resort, White Point
During the all-day session, operators will be asked to comment on current activities under way to build the industry and to help identify where the new opportunities and challenges are. A report on how the provincial marketing plan for 2001 is taking shape will also be discussed.
In addition, the council will report on a study that outlines what products customers are looking for in key geographic areas throughout the province. The information specific to a region will help operators build their business.
"We're pleased to partner on this initiative. It's an opportunity for operators to help shape the future of provincial tourism plans in Nova Scotia. More importantly, they'll be putting provincial marketing and tourism development resources to work for their business," said Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism and Culture.
Operators can register for a session by calling Nicole Laybolt at 902-424-1161, by faxing 902-424-0723, or send an e-mail to Peggy Tibbo-Cameron with the Tourism Partnership Council at [email protected] .
