Co-ordinator for Economic Development Council

Charles "Chuck" Maillet has been named co-ordinator of the recently-formed Conseil de développement économique de la Nouvelle-Écosse (CDÉNÉ). He will assume his new position on May 8.

Mr. Maillet will be responsible for developing a strategic plan and action plans for the new council charged with administering work in the four sectors of activity identified by the Conseil national de développement des ressources humaines de la francophonie canadienne, the federal body funding the conseil's activities. The work areas are rural development, knowledge economy, tourism and the integration of youth in entrepreneurship.

The new coordinator is a graduate of l'École secondaire de Clare and has obtained a bachelor of commerce from Dalhousie University. He spent five years with Irving Oil where he became director of operations. Last year he joined the Fédération Acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse as director of finance.

"Mr. Maillet represents the type of dynamic and dedicated young Acadian, armed with the right academic and work background, that can best help bring about and promote the economic development and diversification of our Acadian and francophone communities in Nova Scotia," said Joseph Cottreau, executive director of CDÉNÉ. "I invite the entire community to welcome him warmly and provide him with all the support necessary to ensure the success of the CDÉNÉ's programs which will get underway in the fall".
