Spring Weight Restrictions

Spring weight restrictions are being lifted in all counties in northern and eastern Nova Scotia next week, the Department of Transportation and Public Works announced today.

Effective Thursday, April 27, at 12:01 a.m., all Nova Scotia roads that had been subject to spring weight restrictions will be open to regular traffic.

Trucking restrictions on roads in the counties of Colchester, Cumberland, Pictou, Antigonish, and Guysborough, and all of Cape Breton Island are still in effect until next Thursday. Roads in all other counties to the south and west have been open since April 13.

Heavy truck traffic is restricted on many Nova Scotia roads every spring to prevent damage to roads weakened by a combination of frost leaving the ground and wet spring weather. Spring weight restrictions were put into effect on March 2.
