Tenders Out for Gravel Roads

The Department of Transportation and Public Works will issue a call for five tenders on Wednesday, April 19, to sand seal more than 137 kilometres of gravel roads.

"This is a sign of our commitment to improving our secondary roads," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "This government recognizes that an investment in our roads is an investment in all Nova Scotians."

The minister will announce the winning bids on Tuesday, May 9.

The five tenders are in western Nova Scotia. The contracts include 82.8 km in Lunenburg County; 28.4 km in Kings County; 11 km in Queens County; 10.9 km in Chester Municipality; and 4.2 km in Yarmouth County.

Sand sealing is a surface treatment of asphalt primer and sand that reduces the dust on gravel roads. It is only done in the western part of the province because of soil conditions in that region.
