More Weight Restrictions Lifted
Spring weight restrictions were lifted Thursday, April 13, in two more Nova Scotia counties.
On Thursday, roads that had been subject to spring weight restrictions in the counties of Halifax and Hants were opened to all regular traffic.
"Spring weight restrictions are designed to protect roads weakened by a combination of frost leaving the ground and wet spring weather," said Martin Delaney, executive director of District Operations for Transportation and Public Works. "We've had good drying conditions in southwest Nova Scotia and now we can open those roads to heavier traffic again."
Restrictions have already been lifted in the counties of Yarmouth, Shelburne, Digby, Queens, Annapolis, Kings and Lunenburg.
Spring weight restrictions were put into effect on March 2 across the province. Restrictions on roads in all other counties remain in effect. The department will continue to issue notices as more roads open in the near future.
A list of roads closed can be found on the Department of Transportation and Public Works website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran/home/index.stm .
