Snow Crab Seminar to Be Held

Snow crab fishermen, buyers and processor are invited to a Snow Crab Seminar on Thursday, April 13, at the Nova Scotia Community College Strait Area Campus auditorium in Port Hawkesbury.

Hosted by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the seminar will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Topics to be discussed include handling and grading techniques, current market information and the biological aspects of fishing snow crab.

"In recent years the snow crab fisheries in eastern Nova Scotia has grown significantly and now accounts for an important part of the annual landed value," said Ernest Fage, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

It is anticipated the snow crab quota will be increased in eastern Nova Scotia thereby increasing the number of people involved in the industry.

"The focus of the meeting will be on new entrants into the crab fishery. However, I encourage everyone who is involved with the snow crab industry to take the opportunity to attend," said the minister.

Seating will be first-come, first-serve.
