4-H Members Attend National Career Conference
Two 4-H members from Nova Scotia are heading to a national conference in Winnipeg.
Adam Scanlan of Richmond County, and Walter Paige of Hants County, are attending Eyes on the Future. The conference starts today, March 29, and runs to April 2. Both won a National Travel Award to attend the conference for their involvement in 4-H activities and contribution to their community. Recipients of the award must be 16 years of age or older.
"A conference such as this provides unlimited opportunities for the delegates and gives them the information they need to make important decisions about the future and pursuing a career in agriculture," said Ernest Fage, Minister of Agriculture and Marketing. "It's an honour for these two 4H-ers to have been chosen for a National Travel Award and I want to congratulate them for their achievement and contribution to their community."
The conference provides information on careers in a number of industries but encourages delegates to think seriously about one of the many career opportunities available in agriculture. The overall goal of the conference is to present a positive picture of agriculture and help delegates appreciate the importance of agriculture in Canada's economy.
While at the conference, Adam and Walter will join 16 other delegates from across Canada and 40 senior 4-H members from Manitoba for industry visits and tours, career counseling seminars and simulated job interviews with representatives from government and industry. Delegates also have the option to participate in a four-day host home experience where they live with a 4-H family while in Manitoba.
National conferences give 4-H participants an opportunity to travel and become familiar with other parts of Canada and build on the positive image of 4-H while enhancing public awareness of the program.
