Course for Outdoor Leaders
The Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Program is making outdoor recreation activities in the province safer and more comprehensive.
The program aims to improve the quality of outdoor leadership through a series of weekend courses and an eight-day Leadership School. Some of Nova Scotia's best outdoor specialists are involved in the program, which is funded by the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission.
The next weekend session is an Emergency Procedures course to be held between April 7 and April 9 at Camp Geddie in Pictou County. The deadline for applications is March 24. Applicants have to be 17-years-of-age or older. The cost is $65 for adults, $55 for students and $130 for out-of-province participants.
"This course provides outdoor leaders with the skills to assess, develop and implement appropriate responses to emergency situations," said Ted Scrutton, the commission's co-ordinator of outdoor recreation. "Particular attention is paid to developing personal and group leadership skills for preventing and managing emergency situations."
The course is invaluable to anyone who leads groups on trips off the beaten track.
