Museums Have Cure for March Break Boredom

Worried about a case of the March break boredom blues? Well, have no fear, the Nova Scotia Museums are here!

Cure any case of the humdrums with the grossly fascinating Bug World event at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax. You'll find big bugs, small insects and everything in between. We have them alive, dead and even cooked! Sample some bug-a-licious cuisine, meet an entomologist, get to know the good bugs, bad bugs and join-in the creepy, crawly singalongs. Visit the interactive Bug Theatre with a Neptune Theatre School presentation. Kids of all ages will be crawling back for more!

Get a charge from great March break programs like Light Up Your World at the Museum of Industry, Stellarton. See for yourself what life was like before electricity, and make your own candle. Or take part in Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt, a whodunit labour-mystery workshop. Don't miss these and other exciting, hands-on programs such as In the Shop of the Printer's Devil, Books in Motion and Weaving Ourselves Together.

Have a sweet time during the taffy pull at Ross Farm Museum, New Ross. Sampling homemade candy in crooked Rosebank Cottage, trying to solve puzzles in the blacksmith shop and watching the woodworker carve toys are only a few of many ways to spend your days away from school. Hop aboard for a sleigh ride, or meet unique heritage-breed farm animals. This March break, take a hands-on adventure in rural 1800's winter living.

Want to meet a Burmese python face-to-face or get the dirt on fossils from a paleontologist? If so, Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro is the place for you! At the Reptile Show, meet Jacques Babineau and his fascinating reptile friends, including an iguana and exotic turtles. Learn the art of lapidary and transform beach rocks into beautiful jewellery and souvenirs. Lego lovers can enter creations in a competition, and dino- darlings are invited to bring their favourite dinosaurs for tea and a movie.

If you're out of school and looking for things to do, museums are for you! Experience the life of a sailor aboard the CSS Acadia at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, or get all fired- up at the Firefighter's Museum of Nova Scotia in Yarmouth. For an outdoor adventure, get bundled-up to explore the seven trails at Uniacke Estate Museum Park, Mount Uniacke. Although the historic home is closed for the winter season, you're welcome to bring your hiking boots, snowshoes or cross-country skis and hit the trails to wander and wonder in the winter woodland.
