Spring Thaw Slows Plows

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' plows are out in full force today. However, they are moving more slowly than usual since many roads have already been weakened by spring thaw.

The plows must move slower, especially on gravel and secondary roads. Crews are also using graders with specialized plows on gravel roads as standard trucks would be too heavy.

The department is asking drivers to be patient. The plows will get the job done, it may just take a little longer.

For Broadcast Use:

The return to winter weather is making things difficult on

many roads in the province.

A number of secondary and gravel roads are battered and soft

from the recent spring thaw.

That makes plowing tricky.
