Spring Weight Restrictions March 2

Heavy trucking on many Nova Scotia roads will be limited beginning Thursday, March 2, as spring weight restrictions go into effect across the province.

Spring weight restrictions are imposed to help protect roads from the severe damage that can result when the ground thaws. The wet conditions and lack of frost contribute to potholes and pavement deterioration.

The public can access a daily spring weight restriction update by calling the department's Road Report Line at 1-800-307-7669, 902- 424-3933 in Halifax. The Internet address is www.gov.ns.ca/tran . The department will also issue daily traffic advisories advising the public of any closures.

A complete listing of roads exempt is available at Transportation and Public Works offices throughout Nova Scotia. It is also published in the Tuesday, Feb. 29, edition of the Halifax Chronicle-Herald and the Wednesday, March 1, edition of the Cape Breton Post.

The Minister of Transportation and Public Works has the right to revise restriction zones, weight restrictions and the list of roads exempted as conditions warrant.
