New Website for Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is making a splash with the introduction of a new and improved website.

The site, www.gov.ns.ca/fish , was updated and redesigned to help people find information on the department and the Nova Scotia fishery in a simple and organized manner.

"This new site offers lots of useful and interesting information. It should be easier for people to navigate, the information is more detailed and there are easy ways to search the data," said Ernest Fage, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

The new site divides information into a number of categories. For information on the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, visitors will find it easily denoted by department info. If searching more specific topics there are sections on sportfishing, commercial fishery, and aquaculture.

The suppliers section has an extensive amount of information and a user-friendly searchable database on buying seafood from Nova Scotia. There is also helpful information for buyers who want to source products from Nova Scotia.

"The department receives inquires from all over the world," said Janis Raymond, Marketing Director. "This is one more way that we can communicate information on our products and suppliers in a timely, accurate and professional manner."

Various training courses such as marine basic first aid, navigation, marine engineering and, business and entrepreneurial courses can be found in the education section. Students can even register online.

For all the chefs out there, the recipes section offers some of the tastiest seafood recipes around.

"It's like one-stop shopping," said Mr. Fage. "You can find information on where to fish and when to fish, as well as species information on what you've caught and then how to cook it, all with a few clicks of a button."
