Minister's Illness

Premier John Hamm today said his thoughts and prayers, and those of all members of his government, are with their colleague John Chataway, Minister of Human Resources and the Department of the Environment. Mr. Chataway suffered a medical emergency and was admitted to hospital on Sunday, Feb. 13.

"On behalf of the Province of Nova Scotia, I would like to join with Mr. Chataway's friends, constituents and colleagues in wishing him a speedy and successful recovery," said Mr. Hamm. "I would also like to pass along my support to his family during this difficult time."

Mr. Chataway's duties have been assumed on an acting basis by Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, who will act as minister of human resources and minister responsible for the alcohol and gaming authority. Justice Minister Michael Baker will assume the environment portfolio on an acting basis.
