Search for Director Continues

A renewed search for a permanent director of the Public Prosecution Service will begin immediately. The previously recommended candidate has chosen not to accept the position for personal reasons, Justice Minister Michael Baker announced today.

"It's unfortunate; we felt we had a top notch candidate and were able to address each of the issues raised during our negotiation process," said Mr. Baker. "It took much longer than expected to address all the personnel issues but we thought this individual was worth the extra time. However, he chose not to accept the post for personal reasons and we must accept that."

In the meantime, the service remains under the direction of Martin Herschorn who has been acting in the position since April of 1998. "Martin continues to have my support and trust and I am certainly grateful he has agreed to stay on. I know the service is in very capable hands."

The minister noted that while the results of the previous search are disappointing, the recruitment process does take time.
"Obviously we want to lessen the time frame for this search and we will be determining how best we can move forward."
