Premier Offers Condolences
Premier John Hamm offered his sympathies today to the family of John Morris Rankin. The premier said people across the province are mourning the musician's death.
"On behalf of the government and all Nova Scotians, let me express my deepest condolences to the family of John Morris Rankin," said Premier Hamm.
"His death is a terrible, aching blow to them all. And today, the whole province is united in mourning the loss of one of its favourite sons."
Mr. Rankin, 40, died Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Margaree Harbour, Cape Breton.
Mr. Rankin played piano and fiddle in the Juno award-winning Rankin Family band. The group has sold more than two million albums.
"The collective grief and sorrow of Nova Scotians and Canadians cannot begin to fill the void in John Morris's family," said Premier Hamm. "But, in time, we hope John Morris's family will find strength in our prayers, our support and our admiration for a most remarkable man.
"He was a model Nova Scotian, a musical ambassador who brought the traditions, the spirit and the energy of Mabou to people around the globe.
"He was an artist, an inspiring musician, and a proud Cape Bretoner, but most importantly John Morris Rankin was a caring husband and father, brother and friend, devoted to the many people he loved."
