Drivers Urged to Remain Off Roads
A fierce winter storm blowing across the province is making road travel dangerous. The Department of Transportation and Public Works is urging drivers to postpone travelling if at all possible.
If you have to travel, please consult up-to-date road conditions available online at www.gov.ns.ca/tran or call 1-800-307-7669, 902-424-3933 in Halifax.
From Cape Breton through to Yarmouth County, all major roads are mostly snow-covered, in spite of round-the-clock plowing and salting. The culprit is heavy winds, which are blowing the snow back onto the roads almost as soon as they have been plowed.
The blowing snow also makes it difficult to see and it will get more difficult when darkness falls. The department's road crews will continue to work until the storm has stopped and the roads are cleared.
The forecast for Tuesday is calling for an end to the snow, but high winds should continue.
