Queen's Counsel Appointments Announced
A Queen's Counsel Advisory Committee recommendation for the appointment of 13 lawyers as Queen's Counsel has been confirmed by the provincial Cabinet.
The appointees are:
Michael G. Baker, Lunenburg Allison Scott Butler, Port Williams John R. Cameron, Bridgetown Michael E. Dunphy, Halifax Gordon C. Johnson, Halifax J. Gregory MacDonald, New Glasgow J. Craig McCrea, Halifax S. Raymond Morse, Truro Patrick J. Murray, Sydney Dawna J. Ring, Halifax Jonathan C.K. Stobie, Halifax Andrew S. Wolfson, Dartmouth Michael J. Wood, Halifax
"An independent committee has recognized these individuals as outstanding leaders in the legal community," said Premier John Hamm. "I extend my sincere congratulations to all nominees. I commend them for their dedication and commitment."
Eligibility for Queen's Counsel appointments include professional integrity, outstanding contributions to the practice of law, an exceptional contribution through teaching or continuing legal education, demonstration of exceptional qualities of leadership in the profession, or engaging in activities of a public or charitable nature in such a way as to raise public esteem of the legal profession.
Recommendations were made to cabinet by the advisory committee, chaired by Justice Doane Hallett. Additional members of the committee included Blaine Allaby, Roberta Clarke, Dr. Daurene Lewis, Robert MacKeigan, Malcolm MacLeod, Arthur Mollon, Joel Pink, and John Young. The committee is representative of all areas of the province and consists entirely of appointees of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
